National Men's Health Awareness Month
"Go to the doctor," she says. "No," he grumbles.
Sound familiar? Let's face it, women are much more likely to be
proactive about their health and seek preventive care than men.
Men's Health Week provides an opportunity for men
to heighten their awareness of preventable health problems and
encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and
boys.
Men's Health Facts:
- Men, on average, die almost six years earlier than women.
- Women are 100% more likely to visit the doctor for annual examinations
and preventive services than men.
- Men suffer hearing loss at 2x the rate of women.
- 69% of men 20 years and over are overweight.
- By the age of 100, women outnumber men eight to one.
- Around 17% of those under the age of 65 are without health
insurance coverage.
- Undiagnosed depression in men results in men being 4 times
as likely to commit suicide.

Men who live to be 100 tend to be in better shape than their
centenarian female counterparts.

- Exercise regularly
- Get routine exams and screenings
- Get appropriate vaccinations
- Manage stress
- Know yourself and your risks
- Be safe - protect yourself
- Be good to yourself
